Your being here is no accident and it means a lot to me. I value your time and you as a human being. Allow me share a little something about me.
I am from a small town in Maharashtra and come from a conservative Marwadi family. While growing up I have seen my family struggle for money and none of the females in my family studied beyond 12th class. I was very good academically and a good artist too. But I didn’t had much hope that my family will send me out of station to study and even if they do How will we be able to afford it. I am the eldest child in my generation so I should think about my younger siblings too and all such thoughts.
Growing up my grandfather was like a father to me. He taught me so many things and even though we lost him few years back his teachings will always be with me. He was an avid reader and I also learnt to emulate him and adopt that habit at a very young age. He was a philanthropist and was part of a local school board. He didn’t had a degree or even graduate high school but he taught himself English and other languages without much of a formal education. He had a very progressive and modern mindset. He understood the benefit of good education and encouraged me to study. Even though we didn’t had much money, he trusted in my abilities and with great pains also paid for my engineering course in a reputed college in Pune.
He taught me to always keep learning and share those learnings. Help anyone in need in whichever way we can. When we lost him in 2013 I was lost too. Even today I miss him a lot. During his prayer meet we met so many people who he helped to get a good education by providing money or arranging scholarships and we never even knew that he is doing all of that while he was alive. That was the day I decided to contribute back to the society the same way he did, through teaching and developing people. I started with my family and friends and then colleagues and slowly and steadily when I felt confident that I can add value to people’s lives I decided to reach out to more people with the help of technology.
As for my professional background I am an electronics and telecom engineer by qualification and I did my graduation from a reputed institute at Pune University. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a job out of campus and couldn’t afford to stay in Pune without having an income of my own. So I joined a call center and worked there for 6 months. That helped me a lot with English speaking and communication skills. Parallelly I upgraded my skills , completed a course in Software testing and got selected as a Trainee software engineer with an MNC. I started out at an entry-level position and my first promotion came in before time.
I continued to do my best and got the opportunity in another role after 3 years with the organization and it was something I knew was a strategic move for my career. That switch did cost me a few years though. The next level promotion which my peers got around the same time I moved, took me another 2.5 yrs to get it. That was a dark phase in my career. I was disappointed that despite performing exceptionally I am still behind people who are not even that good.
My daughter was 7 months old when I moved to the new role, back then working from home wasn’t that common and it was a difficult task to manage a home, a baby, and a career at the same time. I was in a bit of a negative company also at the same time and felt like a failure in everything I did. I was not growing in my career, I was losing precious years of my daughters childhood missing out on her growing up and I wasn’t even paid at par with the average market salary. I was dejected and in a dilemma whether to continue or move back to being quality analyst.
When I was almost on the verge of quitting one of the senior managers in the onsite team that I used to support, offered me a month onsite opportunity along with a Domain change. I picked it up cause the domain change was supposed to open new doors of opportunities for me and it did as well. Then things started improving, I worked with some really amazing, inspiring people. My promotion happened, my salary also got corrected and I was back on the growth path.
Another challenge came in my professional life when I was again due for a promotion and I had to move countries for family reasons. My husband was working in Singapore and thus after him being there for over a year we decided to move the family. I do value my family above everything else but the pinch of leaving something you have worked hard for is always felt. I worked with another multinational in Singapore for over 1.5 years.
As Oogway says in the movie Kung Fu Panda, “You meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it”. Same happened to me. After being in Singapore for 3 months only we got the news that my husband have to go back to India as project is getting closed. After that my husband kept on trying to get another opportunity for a period of time while being in India while I was in Singapore. I was all alone for little over a year and had a lot of time to think, plan and introspect. That’s when I took my personal development journey to next level by exploring not only skills but also my spiritual side.
After coming back to India, I joined the same position I would have gotten promoted to when I left and again lost 1.5 – 2 years of professional growth in terms of designation. 3 years after joining in India I got my next promotion. I worked really hard to get this one but unfortunately I didn’t get it in the team I spent months and years proving myself. I had to pick up a new role to get to the next level.
So wherever you are in your career currently, I feel you. I have been there at some point in time.

Growth can mean different things to different people, It can be a designation, it can be new responsibilities or it can be money or it can be a combination of multiple things. As Zig Zagler says “ Success is when preparation meets opportunity”.
